Dr. Urso was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended college at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. At Washington and Lee, Dr. Urso met his future wife, Katie. He then attended medical school at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV/VCU), during which time he was active in several community organizations and coached a youth soccer team. Dr. Urso completed residency training in Radiology in Pittsburgh at St. Francis Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. While in residency and fellowship, Dr. Urso was very active in the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the American Medical Association (AMA), and served as President of ACR Resident Physician Section, and also served on multiple committees. In 1999, Dr. Urso began practicing in North Carolina, and returned to the Richmond area in 2001. Dr. Urso has extensive training and experience in performing Interventional procedures, and he offers Richmond area patients the highest level of care. In 2004, Dr. Urso received the distinguished AMA Foundation Leadership Award for his efforts in promoting the needs of young physicians. Dr. Urso lives in the Midlothian area and has two children, Madeline (age 10) and Nate (age 7), and is active in coaching their youth soccer teams—and also plays in an adult league. He enjoys running, fishing, and camping—and spending time with his family and three dogs, a Labrador and two Old English Mastiffs.
